Haunted [Literate]

Time slowed. The hot and dusty air seemed to press down on him. Lee could hear the Arabic comm chatter behind him. The bunker door in front of him stood adamant no matter how long or hard he pounded on it.

Dirt crunched underneath cheap boots. Lee, unarmed and without escape, was turned around harshly after his hands were bound. His vision turned black. The coarse material used for the blindfold was taut against his eyes. The talking ceased and in its stead came a loud cheering\chanting.

Audrey grunted as she landed on the pavement in a crouch. Only one thought was running through her mind at the moment: I have to help Amaryss. She shook her head to clear the tears from her eyes and grabbed the side of the car to hoist herself off the ground. It was at that moment, glancing through the passenger window, that she saw the motionless figure slumped in the seat.

Audrey staggered backward, eyes widening. "What . . . what is this?!"

A small, childish voice to her right made her spin around in shock. A short, brown-haired girl stood just two feet away, hands clasped beside her back. She met Audrey's incredulous stare, her mouth curving into a gentle smile. "It's you."

Silence set in after the chanting stopped. Peter's weeping ceased, and he crept to the door. He wretched. He's seen many sights before but not after an execution and especially not of his friend. He was about to walk away when the corpse's hand grabbed his ankle. The headless body pulled him off his feet. Blood spurted from the neck onto his face. Peter's body seemed to turn to stone as the disembodied voice yelled at him. Peter closed his eyes, trying to escape the voice.
